Health Testing We Do as Havanese Breeders Prior to Breeding
If all these tests are done on a Havanese prior to their 2nd birthday, and they pass all the testing, they will be given a CHIC number.
CERF
Exam of the eyes by an opthalmologist approved by CERF. Eyes are dilated and examined for any diseases. Test should be performed yearly on the Havanese.
BAER
Exam to determine whether a Havanese has normal hearing in both ears. Only needs to be done once in a lifetime.
CARDIAC
Exam to determine if further testing needs to be done with concern to the heart. Annual physical exam. Cardiac screening.
PATELLAS AND HIPS
Patellas can be checked and certified by a veterinarian. Hip conformation needs to be x-rayed. Confirmed by radiograph that is sent to OFA to be certified and graded by OFA radiologist.
BLOOD PANELS
Baseline blood panels, liver values, thyroid, CBD, chem panel.
